Vitamin B17 is not really a vitamin. According to CA, a cancer journal for clinicians, the name B17 refers to a natural compound obtained from almonds and apricots. The technical name for B17 is laetrile. Laetrile has been used for years as an alternative treatment for cancer, although CA explains this has never been proved. If you want to try vitamin B17, talk to your doctor and make sure you don't abandon traditional treatment as recommended by your health care professionals.

Step 1

Discuss with your doctor a proper dosage and a diet to go with your supplements. According to Cancer Help, vitamin B17 contains cyanide, which can cause nerve damage and even coma and death if taken in high doses. If you take B17, you should also avoid foods containing amygdalin, which interacts with cyanide and can lead to poisoning. Foods high in amygdalin include raw almonds, carrots, apricots, celery and peaches.

Step 2

Ask your doctor about laetrile injections. According to medical site Cancer Help, this is the most effective form of administration for B17 vitamin. You should have daily injections for up to three weeks to get started with the treatment.

Step 3

Switch to laetrile tablets after that. This will give your body time to adjust to the vitamin. Tablets are more likely to cause side effects such as headaches, dizziness, low blood pressure and drooping eyelids.

Step 4

Try a laetrile lotion to treat skin cancer. This might be safer than ingesting or injecting the vitamin and easier to discontinue if you experience side effects.
