Iced teas, especially those sweetened with artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, can be a good addition to a weight loss regimen. Substituting an iced tea such as Lipton Diet White Tea for soft drinks or other high calorie beverages can help you achieve a healthy weight. The caffeine in some teas may also help you lose weight.

Effects of Caffeine

Caffeine is one of the most commonly used drugs in the world. Most adults consume some caffeine every day, whether in the form of coffee, tea or caffeinated soft drinks. It is generally used to promote alertness and avoid drowsiness, but too much caffeine can cause headaches, stomachaches and insomnia. According to the McKinley Health Center at the University of Illinois, 300 mg of caffeine per day is a moderate amount for most adults.

Caffeine and Weight Loss

A few studies have been done to determine the effect of caffeine on weight loss, but the results have not been conclusive. According to Katherine Zeratsky, a registered dietitian with MayoClinic.com, the three most prominent theories surrounding the effects of caffeine on weight loss are that it acts as an appetite suppressant, increases the metabolism and causes the body to lose water weight.

White Tea

White tea is made from the Camellia sinensis plant, just like green and black teas. White tea is made from the leaves and buds of the very young plant and is minimally processed. While white tea does naturally contain some caffeine, it has less than black or green teas because it is made from very young plants that have not yet begun to produce high concentrations of the chemical.
