Against the warnings against skin cancer risks, many of us still worship the sun and bake ourselves out in the sun. A sunburn is the direct result of too much time in the sun and not enough sunscreen. A sunburn can be painful and uncomfortable and the damaged skin may peel as it heals. Prevention is the key to ensuring your skin will not sunburn and peel, so never go out in the sun without applying a high SPF sunblock.
Step 1
Take a cool shower or bath at the first sign of sunburn peeling to cool the skin. Care2.com recommends adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to the bath to help heal the skin.
Step 2
Pat the skin dry instead of rubbing. Rubbing the skin may cause the sunburn to peel further.
Step 3
Keep the skin hydrated from the inside by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Step 4
Apply aloe vera lotion, either bottled or straight from the aloe vera plant, to the peeling skin. Re-apply a few times throughout the day especially if you notice the skin peeling. Sunburned skin is extremely dry and needs to stay moisturized constantly.
Step 5
Avoid picking, peeling or scratching the skin, Not only will you make the peeling worse, you may cause an infection in the broken skin.
