Tapping therapy is a regimen based on EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique. Also known as meridian therapy, the technique has become popular in the recent past as a weight loss technique, though it's history originated as a holistic form of alternative medicine. The technique is also used to help overcome fear, improve performance and physical well-being. Individual strategies for weight loss can take many forms, one of which includes a process called tapping. Tapping is a type of stress-release mechanism that you may do without realizing it.
Consult your physician before embarking on any alternative therapy regime.
Tapping to Distract
Distract yourself from worrying about your diet by tapping your face under the eye, suggests Roberta Temes, a PhD specializing in weight-loss techniques. This is a common pressure point used in acupuncture and acupressure therapies. Tap the bone found under the eye while telling yourself you're craving something, but that you can do without it. Tap this bone three or four times. Then tap your left collarbone three or four times with the fingers of your right hand, she suggests. The tapping will help you deal with the craving, and your words will help you learn the power of self-control. Tapping is also used to help distract you from other things, like hunger, worry or anxiety. For this reason, the technique continues to be popular among those who practice holistic health methodologies.
Meridian Tapping
Meridians are lines or pathways of energy that flow through the body, commonly used in acupuncture or acupressure therapies to free flow of energy, blood and nutrients through the body. Meridian tapping may help dieters achieve successful weight loss, suggests Patricia Carrington, PhD, an expert on meridian tapping techniques. Meridians on the head and face are found along the line from the crown of the head to the bottom of the chin, with pressure points found along the top of the skull along this line, on the tip of the nose, between the nose and the upper lip, and the middle of the chin, according to Tuberrose.com, a natural healing website. Tap these points when you're feeling anxious about your diet, or when craving foods that aren't on your diet.
Tapping for Successful Dieting
Tapping is a popular weight loss method encouraged by Paul McKenna, known for his "I Can Make You Thin" television program. McKenna offers a basic eight-step process to deal with cravings that help dieters succeed in their weight loss efforts. To fight cravings, follow his tapping technique, which involves first rating your craving on a scale of one to 10. With two fingers, tap the area just beneath your collarbone, then tap under one eye 10 times. Go back to tapping underneath the collarbone. Then, start tapping the back of your right hand between the ring and index finger with the fingers of your free hand. While thinking about the food you want to eat, close your eyes while continuing to tap, then look to your right and then your left side. Then rotate your eyes in a full circle to the right, then to the left. Following this process, he suggests counting from one to five, humming the Happy Birthday song to yourself, then counting from one to five again, all the while still tapping. These movements purportedly activate both hemispheres of the brain, eliminating the emotional association of the craving, and releasing the desire to eat.
