Fruit is an essential part of a healthy, balanced diet. It contain various vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Citrus fruits are known for their tough exterior skin and juicy interior pulp. They can curb a sweet tooth and add extra flavor and a healthy dose of fiber when incorporated into meals.
Orange
Oranges are full of vitamin C, potassium, folic acid and B vitamins. An orange is a healthy snack because it is sweet, but also low in calories and rich in fiber. Oranges can last for several weeks when stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator. There are various types of oranges, including mandarin oranges, sweet oranges and tangerines. Add orange juice or orange zest to sweet and savory dishes for an extra burst of flavor.
Lemon
Lemons are known for their tough yellow skin and sour taste. Lemon is a good source of vitamin C and B vitamins. The tart flavor of the lemon enhances many desserts, meats and savory dishes. Grapefruit
According to Purdue University, the grapefruit is believed to be a hybrid of the pummelo fruit and the orange. The Centers for Disease Control recommends that grapefruit be stored for one week at room temperature or for eight weeks when refrigerated. The tart fruit is commonly eaten for breakfast, and many diets have been formulated based on grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Grapefruit can interact with many medications, so care must be taken to be sure that adverse reactions do not occur.
