Push-ups have been around for decades and more commonly executed in military training. Increasingly more fitness-minded individuals are incorporating variations of push-ups into their exercise programs. In recent years, there has been an increase in the concern for the amount of strain placed on the wrists while performing a push-up. To alleviate this problem, Perfect Fitness and several other companies marketed their solution for muscle strain with the Perfect Pushup and Push-up Bars.

Price

Both the Push-up Bars and Perfect Pushup are sold at affordable prices. As of 2010, Push-up Bars cost about $14, while Perfect Fitness advertises their original design of the Perfect Pushup for $29.95.

Design

The Push-up Bars and the Perfect Pushup are designed to alleviate any tension on the wrist by providing a grip that raises the user off the ground to prevent applying any pressure in the wrists, as opposed to the traditional way of pressing palms down on the floor. The Push-up Bars have a four leg support wide enough to prevent the user from moving or tipping over during exercise. The Perfect Pushup design is fabricated with a more stable base that utilizes a flat sphere-shape to prevent movement and ensure support for all body types and weight.

Benefits

The Push-up Bars and Perfect Pushup are very lightweight and easily transported. In addition, the Push-up Bars' sleek look is foam-covered to provide comfort and prevent hand slipping. On the other hand, the Perfect Pushup is built on a platform that allows for the handles to rotate for a more natural feel. The idea behind the rotating, rubberized handle is to simulate the natural movement when throwing a punch or performing a dumbbell chest press. Additionally, not only are the wrists protected while using the Perfect Pushup, but the rotating feature helps reduce strain in the elbows while stabilizing the shoulder joints.

Targeted Muscles

Similar to the traditional push-up, both the Push-up Bars and Perfect Pushup train the chest, triceps, core, shoulders and legs. As a result of the rotating handle feature on the Perfect Pushup, the user can engage the back muscles and a few muscles in the arms, shoulders and chest.

Expert Insight

Incorporate other strength and muscle building exercises along with your Perfect Pushup or Push-up Bars to improve your overall physical health. Alternating between different types of strength training equipment such as free weights, resistance bands, kettlebells and machine weights challenges muscles and is an excellent way to improve muscular development. In addition, changing up your strength program prevents static activity and slow progression.
