Although lots of facial cleansers and pore minimizer treatments are available, it's challenging to know which products and treatments are right for you. Some products and procedures are costly, while others are affordable and can be done in the comfort of your home. Consider combining both in-store and at-home deep pore cleanser options to clean your pores. Always consult your dermatologist about strong over-the-counter products before using them.

Step 1

Splash warm water on your face and gently scrub with an exfoliating facial cleanser. Select a product that's intended for the face since body exfoliating products tend to be more harsh.

Step 2

Scrub for two to three minutes to remove built up skin cells, dirt, debris and makeup. When left on your face, they settle in and around pores, making the pores appear enlarged, says DermaDoctor.org.

Step 3

Dip a clean washcloth into water that's steaming hot, but not scalding. Wring out the cloth and place it directly over your face. Lean back and wait for the cloth to cool down completely. The Oil Cleansing Method says this process opens pores and draws out impurities.

Step 4

Rinse your face with cool water and gently pat dry.

Step 5

Follow up with a toner made for your skin type -- oily, dry or normal. DailyGlow.com says toners prevent dirt, debris and other contaminants from seeping back into pores. Soak a cotton ball with the toner and rub onto your face.

Step 6

Schedule an appointment with your dermatologist if pores remain clogged. She can suggest an over-the-counter product, prescribe a stronger treatment or more in-depth procedure. According to Dr. Thomas Heggen, DermaNetwork.org, treatments include microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing.
