Miniature, or mini-golf courses, are designed to have the feel of golf but are shorter in putting distance and can be enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels. Denver and the surrounding areas are full of mini-golf courses, with more than 20 less than a half-hour drive from downtown. Some focus only on mini-golf while others offer a range of attractions for visitors to enjoy.

City of Denver Courses

The City of Denver maintains eight golf courses, two of which feature mini-golf. Aqua Golf consists of a driving range set over water and two 18-hole miniature golf courses. A clubhouse was built in 2010 to accommodate birthday parties and corporate events. Aqua Golf is open year-round and stays open until 10 p.m. in the summer. The John F. Kennedy Golf Course is described by the city as a golf mecca, as it offers courses for every skill level and a range of amenities.

More Than Just Mini-Golf

Several businesses around Denver offer more than just mini-golf. Adventure Golf and Raceway offers you three unique mini-golf courses plus go-kart and dragster racing tracks. The Putting Edge is a glow-in-the-dark mini-golf course plus arcade. The balls and your clothes and shoes glow the entire time you're playing. Heritage Square is a Victorian village where you can shop, eat and play mini-golf and other games at the site's Miner's Maze Adventureland, which is the only human maze in Denver.

Family Oriented

Family oriented mini-golf courses usually offer a discount for children under a certain age and for senior citizens. The Boondocks Fun Center, which calls itself one of Denver's best family attractions, has free admission and each of the 11 attractions is pay as you play, with kids younger than 8 and groups receiving a discount. Putter's Pride allows senior citizens and kids younger than 17 to play for half price. Putter's Pride has three courses with dragons, windmills and ponds winding through the holes.

Good For Groups

Playing mini-golf with a group of friends or having a big birthday party can be a lot of fun at the right venue. Depending on the size of the group and the ages of those in it, certain courses are more appropriate than others. Go Putt has a private party room that can seat up to 50 people and a patio area for up to 100. Grand Golf Park requires a minimum of only eight children for a party and allows the group exclusive access to the entire mini-golf course.

South Suburban Parks and Recreation

The South Suburban Parks and Recreation District was named a finalist for the National Recreation and Parks Association's Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Founded in 1959, South Suburban maintains a number of facilities, including BMX tracks, parks and trails and mini-golf courses. The Colorado Journey Miniature Golf Course has price brackets based on age and has frequent special events, such as discounted admission for sports fans. The Family Sports Golf Course has a waterfall and streams and contains 18 holes of mini-golf.
