There are three major factors that contribute to the appearance of facial wrinkles. The reduction of fat in the subcutaneous layer, cellular health and the loss of muscle tone can all cause facial wrinkles as you age. Muscle tone, or tonus, is the natural state of slight contraction in a muscle which indicates that the muscle is ready to use. When muscle tone is lost the skin folds and wrinkles appear. Training the face muscles will help tighten the skin and improve the appearance of wrinkles.

Crow's Feet

Crow's feet are the wrinkles that extend form the outer corners of the eyes. Typically these will start as very fine lines when you are in in your 20s, but will get longer and deeper as you age. The appearance of crow's feet can be improved by exercising the orbicularis oculi muscles, which circle the entire eye. Place your index and ring fingers on top of the crow's lines, and pull the corners of your eyes outwards toward your temples. While doing this squeeze your eyes tightly shut for a count of six. Repeat 10 times, preferably at least five times a week.

Nasal Labial Fold

The nasal labial fold is the line that runs from the corner of the nostrils to the outer lip corners. Use your thumbs together with you index and middle fingers to grab a chuck of flesh either side of the face. The nasal labial line will be included in the flesh you have grasped. Pull the flesh away form your face, and curl your upper lip into a snarl, as though you are a wild animal about to roar. Hold the pose for a few seconds. Repeat 20 times every other day. Louise Annette, who wrote "Ageless if You Dare" claims this exercise will reduce the appearance of unattractive nasal labial folds significantly.

Lip Lines

Lip lines can be very aggravating as they can make it difficult to apply makeup. To lessen the severity of these lines Deborah Crowley recommends covering your teeth with your lips, and moving your mouth from side to side, as though you were blotting. Do not apply enough pressure to cause pain, but press hard enough so the movement is almost uncomfortable. Repeat for around one minute every day.

Neck Wrinkles

A wrinkly neck is often called "turkey neck" has the saggy, droopy appearance of a turkey's neck. To diminish neck wrinkles, tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. With your lips closed, perform 20 chewing movements.
