La Vista is a relatively new suburb just south of Omaha, Nebraska, scattered with numerous city parks and trails. Just outside your door lies beautiful places for picnics, great trails for your morning jog and playgrounds for the kids. La Vista is an active community with soccer fields and basketball courts around nearly every corner.
City Parks
La Vista has more than 10 parks within the city limits, including the appropriately named City Park, Southwind Park, and Val Verde. Local sporting events, meet-ups, and bike clubs can be found in any given location. If you're interested in grilling on the green, check out La Vista's Central Park. For a shady spot for your picnic, Vista Children's Memorial Park has a shelter for your outing .
Trails
La Vista is jogger-friendly, with several paved trails through neighborhoods and parks. One such trail starts in Val Verde park, a well-lighted, flat track stretching 11 miles. Central Park has an excellent looped trail, perfect for biking and walking. If you're a hiker, close-by trails in Bellevue and Omaha are worth the trip. The nearby Fontenelle Forest is more than 500 acres of forest and prairie, with several looped trails.
Playgrounds for the kids
Central Park is a great park for children, with safe and fun playground equipment in three different locations within the park. Apollo, Ardmore Park, Eberle-Walden, and Jaycee Park are just a few of the many playground locations within the city. A community pool is available during the summer months for children and adults.
Sports Fields
The city of La Vista boasts a public sports complex, complete with multiple softball and baseball fields, a total of 15 soccer fields, several football fields, and even a remote airplane flying field. Other popular parks with recreational fields include Camenzind Park, which also has a horseshoe court, and Seymour L. Smith Park, home to a skeet-shooting range, and is also Frizbee-friendly. La Vista also has both private and public golf courses.
A short drive away...
Lake Manawa State Park, located just over the border into Iowa, is a 15-mile drive from La Vista and offers swimming and sunbathing, boating, and year-round fishing for crappies, bluegills and catfish. Lake Manawa also has an excellent campground with facilities. Both paved and unpaved trails are available for any hiker's skill level, as well as trails for adventurous mountain bikers.
