Scratches can form on eyeglass lenses through everyday wear and tear or because they have been dropped recently. Taking your glasses back to the store to have them fixed may be a costly procedure. Home remedies can be used to remove lens scratches, but their efficacy depends on how deep the scratches are. If the scratch is on the surface of reflective lenses, you should take them back to your optician to have it fixed professionally.
Step 1
Wash the lenses with soap and water and dry thoroughly before attempting any of the household remedies listed below.
Step 2
Apply non-abrasive toothpaste to the lenses with a soft cloth and buff away the scratches. Move the cloth in a circular motion for 10 seconds and rinse the lenses in cold water.
Step 3
Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to form a thick paste. Buff the glasses with the baking soda pasta and a soft cloth. Repeat the process again if the scratches are not completely removed.
Step 4
Fill in the scratches with car wax or petroleum jelly. Apply the substance to the glasses lenses using a soft cloth and buff the surface using circular motions. Do not rinse off. Alternatively, use furniture polish on the lenses in the same way.
Step 5
Clean the lenses with a DVD/CD cleaning kit. The kit usually comes with a solution to remove scratches and a cloth. Follow the instructions listed on the cleaning kit package.
