Dark marks and circles under the eyes are a top beauty concern for many women. According to MayoClinic.com, these unsightly marks may be the result of allergies, over pigmentation, fatigue, thinning of the skin associated with age and sun exposure. Dark circles under the eyes can also be hereditary and may be worse in individuals with darker skin tones.
Step 1
Apply cold packs to the eye area to decrease dilated blood vessels. Compresses can be made out of wet or frozen washcloths, chilled tea bags or frozen peas.
Step 2
Apply concealer to the dark circles, making sure to match the right concealer to your skin tone. Mayoclinic.com recommends a peach toned concealer if the dark area has a blue tint to it. Make sure to blend the edges of the concealer well so that it blends well with the skin and other makeup.
Step 3
Sleep on two pillows to elevate your head at night. This elevation will help prevent blood and fluids from pooling under your eyes which can make dark circles worse.
Step 4
Apply sunscreen daily to reduce sun exposure that can worsen dark circles underneath the eyes.
Step 5
Consult with a dermatologist regarding filler injections. ABC News reports that products that are used to fill fine lines on the face are used to fill the area underneath the eyes. When dark circles are caused by the loss of fat and thinning of the skin in that area, filler injections can temporarily eliminate them.
Step 6
Apply creams that contain alphahydroxy acids to thicken the skin underneath the eyes, explains Dr. John A. Persing, a plastic surgeon and professor at Yale. Thickening the skin can help conceal the blood vessels underneath the skin that often give the darkened appearance.
