Ohio parents looking to involve their children in extracurricular activities have plenty to choose from. Whether you're looking to involve your young ones in competitive sports or enroll them in music or dance classes, there are plenty of clubs and organizations operating in communities throughout the "Buckeye State" that provide these activities and many more.
Ohio 4-H Club
The Ohio 4-H is a community and youth program for children aged 5 to 19, which teaches them how to be active in their own neighborhoods. There are 4-H clubs located all around the state, with specific programs designed for each age group. Over 300,000 children take part in 4-H club activities in the US, such as engineering courses, competitive team sports and clubs for children of military parents.
YMCA
The YMCA is one of the most well-established community centers in Ohio, with locations all around the state and programs for children and young adults. The YMCA provides swimming and dance lessons, art classes, day and overnight camps, horseback riding and sports and fitness classes for children and teens.
All-American Youth Activities of Ohio
All-American Youth Activities of Ohio specializes in low-cost youth sports programs. Cheerleading and martial arts are their most popular offerings, but they also have classes in tumbling, kickball, self-defense, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There is even an Art in the Park class, which provides kids with art materials to paint and draw outdoors.
Ohio State Recreational Sports
Ohio State Recreational Sports, sponsored by the University of Ohio, gets children involved in team sports at a young age and provides instructional programs. Kids can choose from a variety of competitive sports and intramural activities, as well as classes on topics ranging from babysitting to indoor rock climbing.
Ohio State University Youth Classes
For parents who want their children to participate in further education, Ohio State University offers classes for children from preschool to the 12th grade. Aside from day and sports camps, the university also offers classes for young girls interested in engineering, kids who want to explore medicine and pharmaceuticals, and aspiring musicians.
