About Drug Rehabilitation Centers in Tennessee

Cocaine, methamphetamines, marijuana and "club drugs" such as ecstasy and GHB are the common drugs of choice among substance abusers in Tennessee. Drug rehabilitation centers in Tennessee provide an array of services to patients suffering from addiction to promote successful recovery. Treatment plans and recovery programs vary in length and approach from outpatient counselling to short- and long-term residential care.

Types

The types of drug rehabilitation centers in Tennessee include hospital-based programs, inpatient centers offering group and individual counselling, transitional living facilities and out-patient services. Typically, a hospital-based program offers patient detox services and medical care to assist with the painful process of withdrawal and detoxification. Private and state-funded inpatient centers require a patient to check into a facility for a predetermined length of time. Inpatient rehab is considered highly effective when followed by participation in an outpatient program.

Residential

Residential programs offer patients a temporary separation from everyday life in order to promote recovery. Cornerstone of Recovery in Louisville, Magnolia Ridge Detoxification & Residential Center in Johnson City and a majority of the available facilities in Tennessee offer short-term--less than 30 day-- residential treatment programs that support patients physically through detox and mentally through life-skills training, individual and group counselling, as well as 12-step meetings. Memphis Recovery Center offers a three- to six-month in-patient treatment program for addicted youth and can extend the adult treatment plan if need be.

Outpatient

Outpatient programs can follow up an inpatient program, and serve as an alternative when residential or hospital-based treatment centers have no available beds. Patients visit the facility or doctor's office for specific treatment, such as individual or group counselling. Foundations Recovery Network's La Paloma Treatment Center in Memphis offers individual and integrated outpatient services in addition to their inpatient services. Serenity Recovery Centers in Memphis offers options including four hours of outpatient treatment, four evenings a week.

Dual Diagnosis

According to the Foundation Recovery Network, nearly 14 million Americans are affected with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. Research has revealed that people with co-occurring disorders require specialized treatment, often referred to as integrated services. Memphis Recovery Center supports individuals with dual diagnosis, as does Louisville's Peninsula Hospital Dual Diagnosis Program.

Government Services

When no insurance is available or a patient is indigent, state-funded facilities offer inpatient and out patient treatment options, as well as halfway or transitional homes. In Tennessee, the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services which, falls under the mandate of the Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities, is responsible for the system of services for the treatment of substance abuse. These services are offered through contracts with approximately 65 different community-based organizations.
