Liz Vaccariello, author of "Flat Belly Diet," claims that following this diet will help you achieve a flat belly without a single sit-up. The diet is based on the Mediterranean diet which promotes eating monounsaturated fatty acids with every meal. This diet encourages eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and complex carbohydrates. It also claims that you will never be hungry since eating plenty of fat will not only help keep you full it will also, according to the "Journal of Diabetes Care," help you prevent and burn belly fat.
Eat MUFAs
Rule number one on the "Flat Belly Diet" is eat a monounsaturated fatty acid, referred to as MUFAs, with every meal. You should eat foods that are high in MUFAs such as avocados, nuts, seeds, olives, olive oil, flaxseed oil and dark chocolate in small quantities with every meal or up to five times a day for flat belly benefits, according to Vaccariello. These foods are high in calories so you should keep your portion size small: 1/4 cup of of avocado, 10 nuts, 1/4 cup sunflower or flaxseeds, 1/4 cup dark chocolate, 1 tbsp. oil or 10 olives.
400 Calories Per Meal
This diet requires you stick to four, 400 calorie meals per day. This caloric breakdown is for a female of average height, frame size and activity level to get and stay at an ideal body weight, according to Vaccariello. This caloric amount is enough to keep your metabolism and energy level high and maintain calorie-burning muscle. The diet gives plenty of 400 calorie, MUFA-rich meal options, such as turkey salad, veggie pasta, chicken caprese, potato pancakes and peanut butter banana toast.
Drink Sassy Water
This diet suggests drinking 2 liters of "Sassy water" daily. Sassy water is a mixture of 2 liters water, 1 tsp. freshly grated ginger root, 1 medium cucumber, 1 medium lemon and 12 mint leaves. You combine the ingredients in a large pitcher and chill in the refrigerator overnight. This diet claims that the ginger helps calm and soothe your GI tract and that making the water daily keeps you in a positive frame of mind to stay focused on the diet plan.
