With thousands of companies producing millions of different vitamins every year, Amway continues to rank number one in market share, according to Euromonitor International. Nutrilite supplements contain phytonutrients, from their own organic farms, that act as antioxidants protecting the body from everyday assaults from the environment, stress and infection. According to the Nutrilite Health Institute "nearly 8 out of 10 Americans fail to eat a well-balanced diet rich in natural vitamins and minerals." With Amway's share amounting to $2.2 billion in retail sales annually, it seems some Americans are opting for Nutrilite supplements to fill the gap.
History
Prior to 1934, purchasing vitamin and mineral supplements were unheard of. Carl Rehnborg, the founder of Nutrilite, became a pioneer in understanding nutrition, identifying deficiencies, and the idea of using nutritional supplements to improve health. Rehnborg also founded the multilevel marketing concept to sell these supplements. Rich DeVos and Jay VanAndel became involved in Nutrilite prior to founding Amway in 1959. Both men were impressed with the quality of the products and the integrity of its founder leading them to a partnership between Amway and Nutrilite. Nutrilite, now a multi-billion dollar company, sells products worldwide.
Organic Farming
With over 6,400 acres of farmland located throughout the world, the Nutrilite brand draws from organically grown natural plant nutrients, or phytonutrients, to manufacture its vitamins and supplements. According to the company, it does not use synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers, and uses natural sustainable methods to control weeds and insects in the fields.
Natural Plant Nutrients
The nutrients that go into the Nutrilite brand of vitamins, minerals and supplements begin as whole plant concentrates. For instance, the Nutrilite daily multi-vitamin, multi-mineral contains 24 of the essential vitamins and minerals set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These tablets contain naturally sourced alfalfa, watercress, parsley and acerola cherries derived from plant compounds.
Clinical Research
Over 50 clinical studies involving Nutrilite supplements, including six large-scale nutrition assessment studies were conducted at 28 research centers in five countries. Extensive analytical services including bioassays, microbiology and analytical chemistry processes identify ingredients, set specifications and test ingredients as well as identify the source of the ingredients to ensure product safety, consistency and effectiveness.
Formulation to Manufacturing
After identifying the correct ingredients, a rigorous formulation process evaluates them for uniformity, density, dimensions, coating type and stability until the final formula is determined. The Nutrilite manufacturing process includes testing, measuring, blending, compressing and coating, and inspecting and sealing the vitamins in specially designed containers.
