Potassium is an essential mineral of the body which helps regulate a number of processes, including the functioning of the cells, kidneys and muscles. One of the leading causes for muscle cramps is a lack of potassium in the muscle fibers. For individuals who have low potassium levels or are experiencing chronic vomiting, liquid potassium is a potent supplement that can relieve them of their potassium-related problems.
Step 1
Mixed the prescribed dosage of potassium chloride into water, juice or soup broth. You should use at least 8 oz. of fluid, but anything over that amount is acceptable.
Step 2
Drink the solution slowly for 10 minutes. You want to be able to get the potassium into your system relatively quickly, but if you drink the solution too quickly, you can get sick or nauseous when your stomach is hit with such a high concentration of potassium.
Step 3
Keep your torso upright for 30 minutes after drinking the solution. This will help avoid acid reflux or any upset stomach that might occur if you lay down immediately following ingestion of the liquid potassium.
Step 4
Skip any dose if you miss the designated time to take it by more than two hours. Cramming doses too close to one another can cause sickness.
Tips and Warnings
- Avoid taking liquid potassium on an empty stomach. This will help avoid any side effects.
- Never take liquid potassium without diluting it first. This can lead to nausea or vomiting.
