Weight Watchers helps dieters stay on track with a points system that assigns each food a value. Users can eat whatever they want as long as they stay within their set point range. The points system is a formula based on the calories, fat grams and fiber grams found in a particular food. According to the Healthy Weight Forum, the higher the fat the more points in the food, while higher fiber foods lower point values.
Weight Watchers Points
Step 1
Take the number of calories in the food and divide by 50. We'll call this answer A. For most foods you can check the nutrition label. Weight Watchers maintains a charted system for other general foods that don't have nutritional information.
Step 2
Take the number of total fat grams and divide by 12. We'll call this answer B. Fat is a penalizer in the Weight Watchers points system according to the facts about Fitness.com. This means that the foods with higher fat value are counted for more points in the Weight Watchers system.
Step 3
Look up the number of grams of dietary fiber in the product. If the number is 4 or greater use 4 as the number, if it is less than 4, use the number. Divide that number by 5. We'll call this answer C. Fiber enhances point value, but only the first four grams count, according to the Healthy Weight Forum.
Step 4
Calculate A + B. From that total, subtract answer C. Round your answer to the nearest whole number. The rounded number gives you the Weight Watchers point value for a food.
