Xenadrine became a well-known supplement in the early 2000s, when it was one of the most prominent ephedra-based fat burners on the market. However, Xenadrine's name took a hit when a professional baseball player's death was tied to the supplement, leading to a ban of ephedra. Xenadrine has retooled its product, which is now free of ephedra. Though the resulting product is not as potent as its original formula, it is still possible to burn fat and build muscle using Xenadrine.

Step 1

Visit your doctor for a baseline examination to see if you are healthy enough to take a Xenadrine supplement. Xenadrine, similar to other thermogenics, contains high levels of caffeine and is not intended for those with high blood pressure or a history of heart disease. Proceed with taking Xenadrine if you receive a clean bill of health from your doctor.

Step 2

Take half of the recommended dosage of Xenadrine to ease yourself into the supplement regimen. Ease yourself onto Xenadrine by taking half of the recommended dosage at first. This will help you to get used to the caffeine content of Xenadrine and see if you experience any side effects. Work up to the full dosage once you feel comfortable doing so.

Step 3

Begin an exercise program that emphasizes building lean muscle. Though Xenadrine is marketed as a fat burner, you can build muscle by lifting weights and performing cardio to burn fat. The extra energy boost provided by Xenadrine may help you to work harder and thereby achieve greater gains than you would otherwise.

Step 4

Maintain a clean diet. Xenadrine can help you burn fat and can give you the energy to exercise at a high level, but without a healthy diet, you won't see the results you're looking for. It is very important to keep a clean diet, as you can sabotage all of your progress by eating the wrong foods.

Step 5

Take a break from Xenadrine every three weeks. Thermogenics lose their effectiveness if taken for too long, so take a week off from Xenadrine and come back to it. When you resume supplementing, you'll no longer be used to the effects of thermogenics, and and you're likely to receive a greater benefit from resuming use of Xenadrine, notes registered dietitian and bodybuilder Dino Pierce.

Tips and Warnings

  • While taking Xenadrine, be sure to increase your water intake, as the fat-burning properties of Xenadrine will also dehydrate you.
  • Xenadrine can cause some side effects, particularly an increased heart rate and inability to sleep. If you find that Xenadrine's side effects are a danger to your health, immediately stop taking the supplement. Do not take more than the recommended dosage of Xenadrine. Not only does an increased dosage not help, but it can also put your health at risk.
