Detox diets remove toxins from your body by restricting certain foods and stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol and tobacco. Most detox diets use whole organic foods and lots of hydrating liquids to flush your system, cleanse your colon and detoxify your liver. Detox diets may promote weight loss, give you more energy, and clear up chronic conditions like acne.

The Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse, also known as the Lemonade Diet, is a detox plan that involves fasting for at least 10 days while consuming only a lemonade drink made from purified water, organic lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. People following the master cleanse may see a marked improvement in their acne in just 6 days, according to Master Cleanse claims. For any liquid diet, consult your doctor prior to following the plan so you don't jeopardize your health.

The Body Ecology Diet

The Body Ecology Diet uses raw and cultured food to replenish good gut bacteria and balance your inner ecosystem. Probiotics aid in digestion and help your body absorb nutrients, which in turn will make your skin bright and clear. The BED claims that acne is caused by environmental toxins, stress, and processed foods and that if your body is healthy on the inside, you will look healthy on the outside.

The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox

The Martha's Vineyard diet is a detox plan that claims to help you lose up to 21 pounds in 21 days. It is a liquids-only cleanse that involves purchasing special "cocktails" to provide targeted nutrition and energy. The MV diet also recommends colonic and enemas, including a coffee enema. With this detox, it is common for your skin to get worse before it gets better. As toxins leave your body, they do so through your pores, making acne break-outs very normal, according to diet proponents.

The Fat Flush Plan

The Fat Flush was designed by Dr. Ann Louise to cleanse the liver and boost liver function. The Fat Flush, per Dr. Louise, can increase your metabolism, help you sleep better and increase your vitality. Her diet plan includes food high in zinc and low in copper and iodine, which work to clear up acne. Zinc helps with healing and cell-regeneration, while copper is limited because it interferes with zinc absorption and iodine often causes an allergic reaction that leads to pimples.

Cranberry Juice Diet

A cranberry juice detox is a very short and extreme cleanse, 2 - 3 days maximum. Only organic sugar-free cranberry juice and purified water are consumed, between 32-64 ounces of juice and 48 ounces of water a day. This will cleanse the urinary tract and push toxins from the body. Again, acne may get worse before clearing up as impurities leave your body through your pores as well as urine and waste.
