Information on the Sears Lifestyler 3100 Treadmill

Sold at Sears, the Lifestyler line is manufactured by the Icon Health and Fitness company, which also makes other popular brands such as NordicTrack and ProForm. The Lifestyler 3100 is an older model treadmill that was manufactured around 1990. You can find these machines on websites that sell used fitness equipment.

Incline Settings

Unlike some newer model treadmills, the Lifestyler 3100 incline settings cannot be adjusted with the press of a button. The incline is manually adjusted by physically moving a lever on the side rails of the treadmill. You must adjust the incline before a workout, or stop your workout, get off the machine and set the incline. To increase the incline, you pull a lever at the rear of the treadmill; to decrease the incline, you pull a lever at the front of the treadmill.

Speed Settings

You control the speed on the Lifestyler 3100 by a sliding mechanism. You must manually slide the speed control to the "Reset" position to start the treadmill. You then adjust the speed by sliding the switch forward until you reach the desired speed. To decrease your speed, simply slide the switch back.

Programmable Mode

The Lifestyler 3100 offers a programmable speed feature. You set a timer for the length of time you want to exercise, between 5 and 40 minutes. Eight sliding speed controls are located on the console. Set each control to your desired speed. Icon Health and Fitness does not recommend setting two adjacent controls to greatly differing speeds. This will cause a sudden jump in speed and may result in loss of balance. Pressing the "Start" key begins your workout. The machine divides the set time by eight and runs each speed for that length of time.
