About Sun Twin Heaters

Sun Twin Heaters are manufactured by Edenpure, a company that's been offering this type of heating system since the late 1980s. Sun Twin Heaters are known for being small, portable, energy-efficient, and easy to use. Essentially, all you have to do is plug the heater into any outlet in your home and it will warm the area immediately. Edenpure believes its product is superior to conventional heating systems in homes because Sun Twin Heaters will only heat up the room you are in, rather than heating up the whole house.

Features

A Sun Twin heater's most noteworthy feature is the fact that it does not reduce the amount of humidity or oxygen in the air of a home, which is important because humidity is necessary to maintain an even amount of heat from floor to ceiling. Other types of heating devices, even conventional heating systems, drastically reduce the amount of humidity in the air. According to Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), a health journal published by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), humidity is also necessary for health reasons. Breathing warm, dry air isn't good for you; moisture must be present. Relative humidity levels between 40 and 60 percent are ideal for indoor environments.

Size

Sun Twin heaters are known for their small, compact size, which makes them incredibly portable. Their small-seeming stature can be deceiving; the largest model weighs in at a hefty 36 lbs, while the smallest model weighs 18 lbs. Sun Twin heaters also vary in watt size; they come in 1,000 Watts and 1,500 Watts models.

Design

Sun Twin heaters have a distinct design. Most models come in either brown wood laminate or a black and red plastic. Both are small and boxy and almost have the appearance of small cabinets or of an old radio or record player. The price of each model varies according to its features and overall design. As of 2009, Sun Twin heaters ranged in price from $199 to $565.

Misconceptions

Each winter many homes get burnt down because of the use of small, portable heaters and some may have been led to believe that Sun Twin heaters are just as dangerous as other types, but that's not the case. Sun Twins actually can't start a fire because their infrared heating elements never get hot enough to ignite anything. Not only that, but the outside of the heaters only gets warm to the touch, meaning small children and pets aren't in danger of getting burned.

Considerations

Though it's true that in some cases a Sun Twin heater can reduce a heating bill by up to 50 percent, they might not be the ideal heating system for large homes that have multiple rooms. If you have many family members spread throughout your house and live in a cold climate, heating up just one room at a time may not be ideal. If, however, you live in a smaller home with close living quarters, one of these small heaters would work well.
