Freckles are widely disputed in the world of beauty. Some find them charming and beautiful and believe they make a person more unique. Others, usually those who have multiple freckles, aren't so sure of their beauty. Fortunately, for the latter opinion, freckles can be altered. Though it's impossible to remove them completely without the help of lasers, you can gently fade the dark spots. Consult a dermatologist before attempting to fade dark freckles.

Step 1

Cut a lemon in half with a sharp knife and squeeze the juice out into a small bowl.

Step 2

Place a cotton ball into the bowl so that it absorbs the juice.

Step 3

Rub the juice onto all the affected areas of your body and allow it to set for 10 to 15 minutes. The vitamin C in the lemon juice (also referred to as ascrobic acid) naturally fades the dark pigmentation of freckles over time.

Step 4

Rinse with warm water and gently pat dry with a clean towel. Repeat two to three times per week.

Step 5

Use an over-the-counter bleaching cream. These are available only and at maney drug and beauty stores. According to DermaNetwork.org, bleaching creams often contain hydroquinone and Retin-A. Test a very small area before using these creams to make sure you won't have an allergic reaction.

Step 6

Consult your doctor or dermatologist about a more in-depth procedure like laser freckle removal. According to Freckles.org, laser removal is a permanent procedure that quickly and painlessly eliminates the spots. Other freckle removal treatment options include chemical peels, intense pulsed light therapy and photofacials, says the DermaNetwork.
