While they are a natural part of aging, frown lines are distasteful to some. Many people choose to remove frown lines for cosmetic reasons. Soft tissues fillers are the easiest way to smooth out facial wrinkles, but the results are temporary and repeated filler injections are typically required every few months to prevent the recurrence of fine lines and wrinkles, explains MayoClinic.com. Soft tissue fillers, such as collagen, fat and hyaluronic acid, may trigger facial swelling, redness and bruising, but recovery is rapid and you can resume your normal activities within 24 hours.

Step 1

Remove your makeup and any skincare products prior to your procedure. Your dermatologist will likely clean your face with an antibacterial solution before your injections.

Step 2

Request that a topical numbing solution be applied to your forehead if you are concerned about discomfort. Your doctor may also wish to inject numbing medication directly into the nerves in the treatment area. Not all filler injections require anesthesia.

Step 3

Tell your doctor if you experience significant pain or burning during the procedure. While some burning and stinging is expected, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, severe symptoms may indicate an abnormal reaction to the procedure.

Step 4

Ice the treated area for 15 minutes before leaving your doctor's office to minimize bruising, redness and swelling. Continue to apply ice after leaving your appointment if your dermatologist recommends doing so.

Step 5

Reapply your makeup, if desired, before leaving your appointment. Be careful not apply pressure directly to the treated area.

Step 6

Massage the treated area for five minutes, three or four times each day, for at least one week if you were treated with poly-L-lactic acid. If you were treated with another filler, keep your hands off your face for at least three days.
