Exercises that help your eyes focus may help strengthen your eyes and avoid the need for prescription eyeglasses, according to All About Vision. This is especially true for those with astigmatism, convergence insufficiency and weak eye muscles. Performing eye exercises not only improves your vision, but it can also reduce problems that are caused by eyestrain, such as headaches. Eye exercises are quick and can be performed almost anywhere.

20-20-20

The 20-20-20 eye exercise allows your eyes the opportunity to refocus and relax when they feel strained, according to All About Vision. To perform the exercise, set a timer for 20 minutes on your watch, phone, computer or whatever device is available to you. For every 20 minutes that you are working on a task that fatigues your eyes, take 20 seconds to focus on an object that is a minimum of 20 feet away from you. This allows your eyes to rest and become focused for short periods before you go back to what you were doing previously.

Eye Roll

Just as stretching your body helps your shoulders and back, the eye roll exercise will stretch and relax your eyes. This exercise also promotes circulation, which allows an increased amount of nutrients and oxygen to flow to the area. According to Chinese Holistic Health Exercises, eye rolls can be performed either from a sitting position or while lying down. While holding your eyes open, roll them in a clockwise direction at least 20 times. Blink a few times and then repeat, rolling your eyes in a counterclockwise direction. Try to make the circles as wide as possible while holding your head still. As you continue the exercise, gradually build up your speed.

Distance Focusing

The distance focusing exercise can improve and rebuild your vision, according HolisticOnline.com. To give your eyes a rest from focusing on up-close items from computer use, reading or paperwork, take some time each day to go outside and allow your eyes to focus on distant objects or far away landscapes. To perform this exercise, find the farthest object that you can see, and focus on it. Allow your eye to notice the difference between far and near. Hold your focus on the distant item for at least a full minute.
