Face spots, typically called liver spots, sun spots or age spots, are most commonly caused by too much sun exposure over time. Aside from the face, these spots also appear on the hands, shoulders, arms and necks. These spots vary in color but are usually black, gray or brown. Although the sports are usually harmless, many people become self-conscious about them and want to remove them. Avoiding sunlight and wearing plenty of sunscreen are the only ways to prevent face spots from appearing. However, there are a number of home remedies that can be used to make the appearance of face spots less prominent.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera gel, which is the thick liquid that comes out when the plant is cut, can be applied to lighten the spots on your face. It also works to soothe the pain associated with sunburns. Apply the aloe vera gel onto the age spots twice per day. Leave the gel on your face for a minimum of 45 minutes before washing it away with warm water. By using this home remedy, you may see an improvement within a month, according to HomeRemediesWeb.com.

Lemon Juice

Lemons contain an alpha-hydroxy acid called citric acid, which encourages cell turnover within the skin. Lemons are among the most potent natural remedies that can be used to lighten the skin. To get the most out of the remedy, squeeze a small amount of lemon juice onto a cotton swab or the tip of your finger and apply it to the spots on your face. If you are using the remedy first thing in the morning, leave the lemon juice on your face for 30 minutes before rinsing your face with water. If you are applying the lemon juice at night, leave it on your face all night if possible. The results of the remedy may become noticeable in about two months.

Honey Yogurt Mask

Creating a mask of honey and yogurt creates a natural bleaching agent that may work to fade dark or discolored spots on the face, according to Planet Green. To make a mask, mix 2 tbsp. cooked oatmeal, 1 tsp. honey and 2 tsp. of plain yogurt. Before going to bed, spread the mixture all over your face and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat your face dry with a towel. Along with lightening your face spots, the mask will also moisturize your face, helping with rough, dry skin.
