Jell-O is a well-known manufacturer of pudding and it makes the sweet treat in dozens of varieties. The introduction of sugar-free instant pudding mixes made the product accessible to people who either choose to follow a low-sugar diet or must do so because of a health condition such as diabetes. When you eat the pudding for a snack, you should read the nutrition facts to understand how it impacts your diet.

Calories

Jell-O sugar-free chocolate pudding mix contains 35 calories per serving, but making it with skim milk will add 45 calories for a total of 80 calories per serving. If you eat a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, a serving of the pudding amounts to 4 percent of your total caloric intake for the day. The amount of calories you should consume each day varies depending on your age, size and activity level, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Fat

Sugar-free instant chocolate pudding contains no fat or cholesterol. Although having the pudding for a snack will not add to your daily fat intake, many of the other foods you eat do contain fat. The Food Guide Pyramid advises you to limit fat intake to 65 g per day if you eat 2,000 calories a day. Of that, no more than one-third should come from saturated fat.

Sodium

Although it is a sweet treat, Jell-O's sugar-free chocolate pudding contains 300 mg of sodium per serving, which is equal to 12.5 percent of the maximum recommended daily intake. Sodium intake should be restricted to 2,400 mg a day or less to protect against developing high blood pressure, which puts you at risk for heart disease and heart attack, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Carbohydrates

Because it is sugar-free, the chocolate pudding contains less carbohydrates than the original version but it still does contain some. Each serving contains 8 g of total carbohydrates, representing 3 percent of the daily intake recommendation. The carbs in the instant pudding include less than 1 g of dietary fiber -- 3 percent of the recommended intake -- and no sugars.

Protein

The Jell-O sugar-free instant chocolate pudding mix does not contain any protein as it is packaged, but because it is made with milk, eating it will will add to your daily protein intake. A 1/2-cup of skim milk contains 4 g of protein. American dietary guidelines do not include an intake recommendation for protein because deficiency is not a concern in the typical American diet, the FDA reports.

Vitamins and Minerals

Sugar-free instant chocolate powder mix does contain small amounts of some of the essential vitamins and minerals. The mix itself contains 4 percent of the recommended daily intake for iron, according to the nutrition label. When it's made with skim milk, the pudding contains 15 percent of the daily intake for calcium and 4 percent of the intake recommendation for vitamin A.
