Citracal provides 400 to 630 mg of calcium per serving. The amount of calcium depends on the type of citracal formula you use: Regular, Maximum, Plus, Petites, and Kosher, according to manufacturer Bayer HealthCare.

Identification

Citracal contains calcium citrate, unlike other calcium supplements which contain calcium carbonate. According to Bayer HealthCare, calcium citrate can be absorbed in the body without stomach acid.

Dosage

Bayer HealthCare states that you should take one to two pills twice a day, unless your doctor recommends otherwise.

Side Effects

According to Drugs.com, citracal may cause side effects, including: dry mouth, nausea, constipation, decreased appetite, increased urination, and increased thirst. Go to the emergency room if you suspect an allergic reaction.
