Gravity inversion tables have been around for decades, but became popular after 2000 with the infomercial marketing of Teeter Hang Ups. Since then, a number of competing inversion table models appeared on the scene to capitalize on the fitness buzz, including Stamina's Deluxe Inversion Table.
Features
The Stamina Deluxe Inversion Table is equipped with half-circle handlebars on the side frame to make returning to an upright position easy for people who cannot bend at the hips. The adjustable leg lock system extends from 4 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet, 6 inches tall. The back support is made of foam covered in stitched nylon and the entire machine folds up for easy storage. Teeter Hang Ups come with similar features, but most models have smaller return position handles. Teeter Hang Ups meet medical grade standards in terms of their construction and can support up to 300 lb. Some models of Teeter Hang Ups have foam backings while others have supportive netting.
Function
Both the Stamina Deluxe and Teeter Hang Up inversion tables operate in a similar manner, allowing you to recline to various degrees while inverted. Both companies claim that inversion therapy helps to reduce back pain, promote circulation, reduce stress and improve your posture. The angle of inversion you experience on the Stamina Deluxe is controlled by loosening or tightening a buckle strap underneath the table. The angle of inversion on a Teeter Hang Up is controlled by buckling a tether strap into specific points that give you a 20, 40 or 60 degree angle on the table. Full 90 degree inversion is possible by disconnecting the tether strap from either machine.
Price
The Stamina Deluxe Inversion Table is not directly available from manufacturer Stamina Products Inc. as of October 2010. Third party retailers carry Stamina inversion tables in a range of prices from $150 to more than $300, as of October 2010. Teeter Hang Ups are available in a wider variety and are priced at around $250 for a basic model to more than $2,000 for a motorized model.
Considerations
The Stamina Deluxe and most models of Teeter Hang Ups come with a five-year warranty on the frame of the machine. Teeter Hang Ups do meet medical grade standards for construction put forth by Underwriter's Laboratory. You will likely pay more to purchase a Teeter Hang Up, but they have been proven to meet high quality standards. Teeter Hang Ups also come with a 30-day money back guarantee.
