About Winstrol

Winstrol is the trade name for the drug stanozolol, a synthetic anabolic steroid, similar to the hormone testosterone produce by the male testicles. Winstrol is used to treat the rare, serious and life threatening disease called hereditary angioedema. This condition is a result of an immune system problem that causes recurring episodes of rapid swelling in the face, airway or testicles and in the intestinal tract or the extremities. Winstrol works to lessen the severity and frequency of these attacks.

Function

The function of Winstrol is to fend off the attacks and decrease the severity of the symptoms of hereditary angioedema. Winstrol is also used by body builders to reduce fluid retention and to produce lean bulky muscles. According to Rxlist.com, "the use of anabolic steroids may be associated with serious adverse reactions, many of which are dose related; therefore, patients should be placed on the lowest possible effective dose." Winslow is available in tablet or injection form.

Side Effects

Liver problem is a rare and serious side effect that may occur while taking Winstrol. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop any of these symptoms. Abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, dark colored urine or light colored stool along with yellow discoloration of the skin and white of the eyes or swelling of the extremities. Men may experience frequent or persistent erections while women may have voice changes and facial hair growth.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction may occur which includes, rash or hives, swelling of the face, throat or tongue and difficulty breathing, Seek immediate emergency medical care if you develop any of these symptoms.

Considerations

Before taking Winstrol inform your doctor if you have prostate cancer, hypercalcemia (elevated calcium level in the blood) or breast cancer. Talk with your doctor about your medical history to include, if you have heart problems, vascular diseases, diabetes or liver or kidney problems and if you are taking a blood thinner or have blood clotting problem or high cholesterol. Do not take Winstrol if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to get pregnant.

Laboratory and X-Ray Testings

According to Rxlist.com, the following laboratory testing should be done during treatment with Winstol. Women with disseminated (spread over a large area of the body) breast carcinoma should have frequent determination of urine and serum calcium levels done. Liver function tests should be done periodically. Hemoglobin and hematocrit should be checked periodically for polycythemia (too many red blood cells). X-ray should be taken every six months for prepubertal patients to determine the rate of bone maturation and the effects Winstrol on the epipyhyseal center (end of a long bone).

Warning

Winstrol is classified as a controlled substance under the Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990 and has been assigned to Schedule 111. Winstrol is approved by the FDA. However it is not allowed in sports competition based on the International Association (IAAF) of Athletics Federation and other sports organizations.
