Cellulite describes the dimpled appearance caused by the accumulation of excess fat in between skin and muscle. While Cellulite is not a health risk and is found in almost 80 percent of females, it can be unsightly. According to the Mayo Clinic, skin is anchored to muscle by connective cords and fat can begin to push itself in between your skin and muscle and then push up against your skin as it expands. The connective cords attempt to keep your skin closer to the muscle. This causes the skin to ripple. There are methods to not only minimize the visibility of cellulite but to also eliminate it.

Step 1

Use Dermosonic treatments two times a week for six weeks. Dermosonic cellulite therapy is a two step process that utilizes ultrasound to soften the connective cords that pull your skin down toward your muscle and trap your fat, causing the dimpled appearance. It will also soften the fat, enabling to it be more easily absorbed into the body.

Step 2

Use NIST as a lymphatic drainage massage. According to bestcellulitetreatments.com, NIST is a hand held vacuum used to massage the area where the previous ultrasound has been used to soften the fat cells. As the module is passed on the skin it creates a massaging vacuum that helps increase blood flow to the area and helps the body absorb and flush out the liquefied fat. While the vacuuming is occurring, it will also pull and stretch the connective cords that cause the dimpled look by pulling the skin down onto the fat.

Step 3

Burn fat with high intensity cardio work. Do an aerobic activity that brings your heart rate to 75 percent of your maximum heart rate for twenty minutes, three times a week. According to Bodybuilding.com, high Intensity cardio burns more fat in a shorter period of time than low intensity cardio and has the added advantage of increasing your metabolism for several hours after you have stopped working out, leading to more fat burned through out the day. Incorporating cardio will not only help you burn excess fat, but will also help develop muscles in the areas most commonly affected by cellulite, such as the hips, thighs and buttocks.

Step 4

Maintain a healthy diet. Choose a low fat healthy carb diet rich in protein from lean sources. Use skinless grilled chicken, meat, fish, eggs and dairy for your protein. Use whole grain, brown rice and sweet potatoes for carbohydrates, and choose healthy fats such as avocado, nuts, and olive oil. Avoid or eliminate foods that are high in saturated fat such as fried foods, chips and pastries, and always Choose low fat alternatives for all of your dressings and seasonings.

Step 5

Limit your intake of foods high in sodium such as canned soups and pre-packaged meals. Excess sodium can lead to the retention of water which will give a bloated appearance and enhance cellulite. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to also help with flushing excess water out of your system.
