ProForm is a registered trademark of the ICON Health & Fitness company. ICON is best known for its ProForm treadmills, but also sells exercise bikes, elliptical machines, weight benches and accessories. According to the ProForm website, ProForm was at the forefront of the foldaway treadmill design. ProForm treadmills provide a good workout and although problems are rare, they will happen from time to time. Following some basic troubleshooting tips will help you keep your treadmill in good working order.
Step 1
Look to see if the treadmill is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the suppressor is in a grounded outlet if you have lost power. Also look to see that the magnetic treadmill key is firmly in the console.
Step 2
Turn off the demo mode of the console if the display is staying lit up after you remove the key. Hold down the stop button for several seconds, and if that doesn't work, the treadmill is in information mode and you must hold down the speed decrease button until the display goes off.
Step 3
Press the incline button while the key is in the console, then remove the key as the treadmill is rising if your incline control is not functioning properly. Reinsert the key after five seconds and the treadmill will recalibrate the incline feature.
Step 4
Insert the hex key into the idler roller bolts at the ends of the rails on the bottom of the treadmill and make a quarter-turn counterclockwise to tighten a loose walking belt. Lift the belt off the platform at the sides when finished. It should raise 2 to 3 inches when right.
Step 5
Turn the left idler roller bolt a half-turn clockwise if the walking belt shifts to the left. Turn the left bolt a half-turn counterclockwise if the belt shifts to the right.
Step 6
If the arms are squeaking when you use the treadmill, turn the resistance knobs on the outside of the cross-walk arms counterclockwise to remove them. Remove the cones with arms attached, from the inside. Lubricate the cones with a thin layer of marine grease, then reattach the cones, arms and resistance knobs.
Step 7
If the console display doesn't function properly, raise the incline of the treadmill to 5 percent, and bend down the uprights. Look for screws underneath the belly pan, and remove them using a Phillips screwdriver, if your model has them. Remove the screws holding the motor hood in place with the screwdriver. Look on the left side of the pulley to locate the magnet and the reed switch. Align the reed switch and magnet by turning the pulley. Reattach the hood, and other screws if necessary, and run the treadmill to check the console display accuracy.
