How to Do the Every Other Day Fast Diet

The Every Other Day Fast Diet is an eating plan that involves extremely limiting the amount of food that you eat every other day. During the alternate day, you will not have restrictions on what you can eat. The diet plan is featured in the book "The QOD Diet: Eating Well Every Other Day" by John Daugirdas. If you are interested in this diet, speak to your doctor first to make sure this is the right weight loss plan for you.

Step 1

Eat as you normally do on the first day. It is not recommended that you binge, but rather eat well balanced meals and a single snack a day. You should avoid cookies and candies as your single snack. Limit your carbs as well and instead eat mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains and foods high in protein.

Step 2

Keep a diet journal. The journal can be used to calculate the calories in your meals. On the normal eating days, it is recommended that men consume between 1800 and 2400 calories per day. Women should be eating somewhere between 1200 and 1800.

Step 3

Fast the following day. After the normal day of eating, you will drastically cut your caloric intake the next day. If you do not work out, you will only eat 300 calories during that day. Active individuals are given an allowance of 400 calories. You will want to aim for foods that provide you with at least 1500 mg of sodium and 2000 mg of potassium. Some recommendations include vegetable juice, orange juice and yogurt.

Step 4

Take a vitamin supplement. To make sure you are getting enough nutrients with the Every Other Day Fast Diet, you need to take both a calcium supplement and multi-vitamin.

Step 5

Make time to exercise. You should not be sedentary on the Every Other Day Fast Diet. You should spend at least 30 minutes a day participating in some form of aerobic exercise, such as running, walking, cycling or swimming.
