As the largest city in Massachusetts and the oldest town in America, Boston is rich in history and culture. Boston provides plenty of opportunities for families to get together and experience its unique attractions. Moreover, families with young children may find Boston to be an enchanting place for baby as well.
Marine Life
The New England Aquarium provides a fun, safe atmosphere for babies to be enchanted by new sea animals that they may not be familiar with, such as dolphins and whales. According to Disney Family, the aquarium's feature attraction is its large ocean tank, which shows sharks, eels, exotic fish and diverse marine life. The aquarium's Curious George Discovery Corner is a place for babies and small toddlers to "explore the colors, textures and shapes of the the world of water."
Tour Trail
From a baby's eye view, Boston's Freedom Trail can be just as exciting as it can be to an adult. On the walk tour, your baby will see the larger-than-life Sam Adams sculpture at the Quincy Market. A Guide will also take you through the original coastline and explore the elaborate architecture, or stop in front of City Hall for donkey rides. The Boston By Little Feet Freedom Trail last one hour. As of 2010, tours run from May to October 31st. Admissions is $8 for parent and child. Strollers are permitted.
Play Area
The Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park is placed right behind the New England Aquarium at North End. The play park is made for babies and young children, as it features a playset and sandbox structure, all overlooking Boston's harbor. Babies can get sprinkled with water around the spray fountain or take a picnic lunch break underneath the wisteria-covered walkway. Admission, of course, always is free.
Interactive Learning
The Boston Children's Museum is all about interactive fun. The museum showcases diverse exhibits ranging from the culture and arts, health and fitness, and science. Popular exhibits include the Japanese House, kid-to-kid theater shows and a hands-on arts and crafts center. The PlaySpace is designated just for babies 0 to 3 years old. It has a tree house climber, see-through painting wall, bridges and slides, and soft cushion crawl spaces and waterbeds. Infants up to 11 months old are admitted free of charge.
Nature
The Swan Boats of Boston is a highly recommended tour for families with small children, as stated by Disney Family. Beginning the tour at Beacon Hill, the Swan Boats drive is short, generally lasting an average of 15 minutes. Parents and babies will travel around the Public Garden Lagoon to view ducks and swans at a slow leisurely pace. At the end of the ride, babies can take a peek at the sculpture of Mrs. Mallard and her eight ducklings in the Public Garden.
