International House of Pancakes, more commonly referred to as IHOP, is known for its fluffy pancakes and variety of breakfast foods available 24 hours a day. The huge menu has an abundance of options, but if you are not careful, you will also take in an abundance of calories while dining at this restaurant. Lighter options are available on the menu, so if you want to enjoy an IHOP meal without derailing your diet, be well informed before you order.


IHOP offers its signature menu item, pancakes, in eight different flavor varieties. Three of IHOP's classic buttermilk pancakes contain 470 calories, 15 grams of fat, 1590 milligrams of sodium, 69 grams of carbohydrates and 13 grams of protein. If you order pancakes as a part of the Pick-a-Pancake Combo, which includes bacon or sausage, two eggs and hash browns, you will eat anywhere between 950 and 1350 calories and up to 79 grams of fat, depending on the flavor of pancakes and meat you choose. If you include syrup or fruit topping to your pancakes, you get an additional 100 calories and 27 grams of carbohydrates per ounce to your meal.

IHOP Signature Favorites

The IHOP Signature Favorite menu includes some of the restaurant's most popular entree choices. The T-Bone Steak & Eggs comes with a whole T-bone steak, three eggs and three buttermilk pancakes, and weighs in at a whopping 1,300 calories, 73 grams of fat, 2940 milligrams of sodium, 73 grams of carbohydrate and 88 grams of protein. The International Crepe Passport includes fruit-topped crepes, two eggs, two slices of bacon and two sausage links. Depending on the flavor you choose, this meal contains approximately 1120 calories, 79 grams of fat, 1620 milligrams of sodium, 63 grams of carbohydrate and 40 grams of protein.

Simple & Fit Menu

If you are watching your calorie intake, you may want to stick to IHOP's Simple & Fit menu which offers over 30 options that all weigh in at under 600 calories. One of the healthiest options on the menu is the Simple & Fit Vegetable Omelet made with egg whites and loaded with vegetables such a spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes, all served with a side of fresh fruit. This meal is a reasonable 310 calories, 12 grams of fat, 690 milligrams of sodium, 27 grams of carbohydrates and 29 grams or protein. If you are craving pancakes, the Simple & Fit Blueberry Harvest Grain 'N Nut Combo serves up only 480 calories and includes 4 grams of fiber and 26 grams of protein.

Lunch and Dinner Options

While breakfast is IHOP's specialty, several sandwiches and dinner plates are on the menu as well. The sandwiches, burgers and griddle melts on the menu range from 700 to 1480 calories and a side of fries will tack on an additional 300 calories. The dinner plates range from 870 to 1500 calories, and a plain baked potato adds 340 calories to the count. The Simple & Fit Grilled Balsamic Glazed Chicken is your best bet for a nutritious lunch or dinner at IHOP. This meal is only 400 calories and 15 grams of fat and provides 8 grams of dietary fiber.
