How to Change Disposable Adult Swim Diapers

Disposable adult swim diapers can help you feel confident while offering a convenient solution to embarrassing incontinence while swimming. Unlike baby swim diapers, adult disposable swim diapers consist of plastic pants and removable, disposable liners. Disposable diapers combined with plastic swim pants offer the most protection, according to the Utah Department of Health Bureau of Epidemiology. If you're a caregiver or you have incontinence issues yourself, adult disposable swim diapers should be changed frequently to reduce bacteria and embarrassing leaks while swimming in public areas.

Step 1

Change the disposable adult swim diaper every 30 to 60 minutes, urges the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Plastic pants and diaper liners can sometimes give you a false sense of security. If you know that the diaper is soiled, change it immediately. Otherwise, schedule regular trips to the bathroom to change for a fresh, clean diaper.

Step 2

Pull the plastic pants down to the knees, exposing the diaper liner in the reusable pants. Most liners adhere to the inside of the plastic pants via snaps of Velcro, so you'll need to loosen the liner accordingly.

Step 3

Roll the diaper liner and discard in a designated waste pail. Never attempt flushing the disposable diapers down the toilet, as they'll likely clog.

Step 4

Insert a new diaper liner into the plastic pants and adhere the liner in the same manner as it was adhered before, whether it's Velcro or snaps. Pull up the plastic pants so they fit snugly around the waist and legs.

Step 5

Inspect the plastic diaper to make sure that the disposable diaper inside is firmly adhered. Disposable adult diapers should never be visible past the plastic diaper leg bands. If you can see some of the liner, remove the plastic diaper and adhere again, as it may have slipped out. Continue to change every 30 to 60 minutes or as needed while swimming.
