Those who believe in Eastern medicine feel you can detoxify your body through the sweat glands, particularly through your feet. Proponents of conventional Western medicine feel this idea is a scam and ineffective. Regardless of what you believe, ionic foot detoxification is widely used across the globe, in spas, salons and even at home. The latter method is the least expensive and simple to use if you follow a few basic steps.
Step 1
Cleanse your feet using a loofah or a pumice stone. Rinse with plenty of warm water and mild cleanser to be certain the feet are thoroughly washed. You want to remove dirt or bacteria buildup that may react negatively with the cleansing salts. This initial foot wash eliminates dead skin cells and softens calluses beforehand.
Step 2
Draw the foot bath and plug in the machine if you use a home kit. Otherwise, fill a large basin with warm water. If you do not use a pre-purchased kit, you can buy Epsom salts or peppermint oil at a health food store instead. Mix them with the water by turning on the machine or manually stirring them yourself.
Step 3
Soak your feet for 1/2 hour for best results. Do this twice a week with at least 48 hours between each treatment. Ionic foot detoxes vary so read your instruction manual to determine times and frequency of every treatment.
Step 4
Read the color chart if you have an ionic foot detox machine. It should come with a color chart so you can compare this to the color of the water in your machine once you are done with the treatment. It helps you gauge how many toxins have been removed from your body.
Step 5
Dry off your feet when you are done. Rub them down with a clean towel, ensuring you dry all the crevices between your toes. This is a hot spot for bacterial growth.
