Lifestyler treadmills are a line of fitness machines originally sold by Sears department stores and intended for home use. These devices are often equipped with a basic console unit designed to control the speed of the walking belt and display information about the workout in progress. While Lifestyler treadmills lack some of the advanced functions offered by modern brands, such as preprogrammed workouts and adjustable incline settings, they remain well-suited if you're seeking an entry-level machine.
Step 1
Hold onto the treadmill's handrail. Step onto the walking deck's side rails; place your feet on the sections of the rail marked off by grip tape. Set the console's power switch to the "On" position.
Step 2
Press the "KM/MILE" button on the console unit to toggle the display units to the desired setting. Press the "MODE" button repeatedly until you see the console's indicator arrow appear next to the "TIME SET" label. Press the "SET" button to add a minute to the workout duration setting; continue to press the button until you have increased the setting to the desired duration.
Step 3
Press the "MODE" button to access the "DIS SET" mode. Press the "SET" button to add 0.1 miles or kilometers to the travel distance setting; continue to press the button until you have increased the setting to the desired distance.
Step 4
Press the "MODE" button to access the "TEMPO" mode. Press the "SET" button to add an eighth of a second to the tempo setting; continue to press the button until you have increased the setting to the desired running tempo.
Step 5
Press the "MODE" button to access the "PULSE SET" mode. Press the "SET" button to add 5 to the maximum heart rate setting; continue to press the button until you have increased the setting to the desired level.
Step 6
Turn the console's speed knob to the "Reset" setting, then turn the knob to the "Start" setting and wait for the walking belt to begin to move before proceeding. Step onto the walking belt and begin walking. Turn the speed knob to the right to increase the belt's speed to the desired rate.
Step 7
Continue exercising until you have reached the preset distance or time setting. Press the "MODE" button to cycle through the trip distance, average speed and maximum speed displays. Step onto the side rails periodically and clip the heart rate monitor to your left earlobe; plug the monitor into the console and review your current heart rate reading.
