The NordicTrack Pilates machine is a fitness product designed to allow the user to perform a variety of cardiovascular and toning exercises at home. The device consists of a sliding seat mounted onto a metal frame. A combination of pulleys and resistance cables allows the user to push and pull the seat across the frame. Over time, the pulleys may cease to move as smoothly as desired; lubricating the bolts that hold the pulley wheels may restore the device to working order.
Step 1
Unhook the resistance cables from the resistance brackets. Unhook the two pulleys from the pulley tubes. Use an open-end wrench or pliers to hold the nut on one of the pulleys in place. Use the socket wrench to remove the bolt from the pulley. Remove the pulley wheel and cable from the pulley bracket.
Step 2
Apply a small amount of lubricant to the work towel, then wipe the lubricant onto the smooth surface of the bolt. Use a second, dampened work towel to clean any grit or grime from the pulley wheel and bracket. Reinsert the pulley wheel and cable into the pulley bracket.
Step 3
Slide the bolt through the bracket and pulley wheel, then tighten the nut onto the ends of the bolt. Repeat the disassembly and lubrication process with the remaining pulley. Hook the pulleys back onto the pulley tubes
Step 4
Pull out the adjustment knob, then pull the ends of the frame outward until you have fully extended the device. Slide the seat cushion to one end of the frame. Apply a small amount of dish soap and water to a work towel, then clean the exposed seat rails. Dry the rails, then move the cushion to the opposite side and repeat the process.
Step 5
Use a socket wrench and an open-end wrench or pliers to remove the bolt, washers and nuts from under one corner of the sliding seat. Extract the carriage wheel from that corner. Wipe the components clean with the moistened work towel, then use the lubricant-coated towel to wipe down the smooth surface on the bolt.
Step 6
Reinstall the wheel, bolt, washers and nuts. Repeat the cleaning and lubrication process with the remaining three corners of the sliding seat. Pull out the adjustment knob and push the ends of the frame together. Reattach the resistance cables to the resistance brackets.
Tips and Warnings
- Wipe the seat rails and pulley cables clean after every workout, to help slow the accumulation of dirt and grime.
