Celebrities follow diet and exercise plans to maintain their toned figures. There are several different plans that are effective, but you have to be careful when undertaking any new diet or fitness plan to ensure that you maintain good heath. If in doubt, consult a doctor.

Significance

Celebrities always seem to be on diets and following exercise plans to keep their bodies fit, and seeing pictures of their perfectly toned figures everywhere encourages us to want to look like them. They often have personal trainers and dietitians to keep them motivated, but they also favor following diet fads and fitness crazes.

Types

In fall 2010, some celeb diet fads included the low-carb South Beach diet, favored by Bill Clinton and Nicole Kidman; the 5 Factor Diet and Fitness plan, which encourages followers to eat five small meals a day and work out five times a week; and the Maple Syrup Diet endorsed by Beyonce, which consists of drinking sugary water for two weeks in place of regular meals. Celebrity diet and fitness crazes seem to change every season, however.

History

Every decade there seems to be a new specific fitness or diet craze that sweeps the nation. The Atkins diet was popular in Celebland at the end of the 1990s. Followers of the plan had to cut out carbs and eat a lot of fat and protein. The diet was controversial; some doctors said following it could cause you to have health problems. In the 1980s, Jane Fonda's aerobics workouts swept the nation. The actress' first fitness video sold millions of copies worldwide and women everywhere were using her aerobics videos to get fit in the comfort of their own homes.

Effects

If you are thinking of embarking on a diet or fitness plan endorsed by a celebrity, do as much research as you can so you can find the best plan to suit you. The Maple Syrup diet, for example, is a quick way to lose weight, but followers have to cut out major food groups and live on sugary water for days on end, which may not be the best way for you to maintain good health.

Warning

Consult your doctor before following celebrity diet tips. She can give you advice on the best way to go about it and will be able to help you to monitor your progress so that you don't overdo it and push yourself too far.
