NordicTrack is a widely known name in the home fitness equipment field. Probably best known for its skier machines, NordicTrack also makes elliptical machines, exercise bikes and treadmills. If you own a NordicTrack treadmill, you may elect to do some of the smaller repair jobs yourself. The number of tools required are minimal, including included with your treadmill when you purchased it.
Phillips Screwdriver
A Phillips screwdriver is cross-shaped at the end. When you assemble a NordicTrack treadmill out of the box, a Phillips screwdriver is generally the only tool you have to provide yourself. Some of the screws that hold the side rails, the deck, the motor hood and the console in place have Phillip heads. A repair that involves the motor or replacing the walking belt will require a Phillips screwdriver.
Allen Wrench
An Allen wrench is a hexagonal-shaped wrench, sometimes called a hex key. One is included with your NordicTrack treadmill. Many repair and service jobs will use a hex key, especially those involving the walking belt and platform. To adjust the tension, center or replace the walking belt will all require an Allen wrench.
Measuring Tape
A measuring tape or ruler comes in handy for NordicTrack repairs. NordicTrack recommends the walking belt tension be set to allow the belt to lift three to four inches from the walking platform. If you adjust or install a belt, you need to use a ruler or measuring tape to set the belt at the proper tension. Problems with the console may require you to adjust the reed switch. Part of this repair involves measuring the distance from the reed switch to the magnet to ensure the gap is 1/8 inch.

The most important tool you can is the owner's manual. The manual lists the tools and hardware you need for your model of treadmill, provides customer service contact information and outlines every part of the treadmill.
