Hypnosis is a heightened state of suggestion, incurred when one is led to a temporary suspension of disbelief, so that ideas may travel freely into his subconscious mind. Hypnotic suggestions are sent directly to the part of your mind responsible for habitual behavior. For this reason, hypnosis is an excellent tool for overcoming the compulsive tendencies that rule the lives of some people. This is true for smoking. Through hypnosis, one can redress behavior at its source, releasing the grip of age-old bonds that inhibit his quality of life as a whole.
Using the Past and Future
Step 1
Close your eyes. Imagine a time in the future, maybe six months from now and realize that it has been that long since your last cigarette. Experience the gratitude that you now have for the increase in vitality you feel; for the ability to breathe more fully and easily. Think of how you intend to spend the excess money, once put aside for cigarettes, on things of great importance to you now. The air in your house and car is now fresh and invigorating. Simply enjoy this experience for a few moments, releasing yourself to the possibilities of a smoke-free life.
Step 2
Notice how you feel a sense of ease emerging inside, even though you are not smoking at this moment. In fact, you have created this feeling of comfort within yourself and, therefore, can return to this state of peace at any instant you choose. Breathe in deeply, absorbing more of this wonderful feeling as you inhale. With each breath out, you are releasing tension from your body and mind, moving you off into a place off profound mental quiet.
Step 3
Allow your mind to drift toward a pleasant past experience; a memory of some time when you felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment and pride. Perhaps you had success in achieving a some desired goal. You may have done something for yourself or another person that brings you a sense of joy. Experience that moment all over again. Absorb this feeling completely. Feel it penetrate every cell and fiber of your being. Once that sensation has spread throughout your entire body, bring together the tips of the two fingers most used for smoking. In the future, when the urge to smoke begins to emerge, you will breathe deeply and soak up all the wonderful feelings of a smoke-free life. As you exhale, release to wish to smoke from your mind and body. Bring those two fingers together once again to instantaneously replace that urge with the sense of accomplishment and pride you once felt. Practice, now, thinking of a cigarette, releasing that thought, then restoring that sense of value and self-respect you earn by reaching your goals. Do this three or four times.
Step 4
Go, again, into the future. Revisit the experience of breathing in deeply, feeling the air flowing freely into healthy, clean lungs. Notice how much energy you have now and how good you feel. Absorb this feeling completely and remember that every moment spent in this place of comfort and peace moves the thought of smoking further away from your reality. You have become a new person, full of only life, vitality and love for every part of your being. Cigarettes are now a distant memory, only relevant to an individual who no longer exists.
