Many individuals do not take proper care of their skin, which often results in skin conditions and disorders such as dry, brittle or scaly skin. Some people are born with skin conditions that require treatment to manage. There are a number of vitamins and minerals that, when taken on a daily basis, will help to keep skin healthy.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is responsible for the production of sebum, a natural oil that is used to keep skin on the face and scalp healthy and strong. According to KidsHealth, vitamin A helps to keep skin cells healthy and also contributes to the development of skin tissues. Vitamin A works with carotenoids to help keep the protective tissue of the skin strong.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant vitamin that is used to protect skin cells and tissues from damage-causing substances called free-radicals, which contribute to the enhancement of the aging process on the skin. Vitamin E encourages blood circulation in the skin, promoting healthy skin glow. Vitamin E helps to improve the texture of skin by keeping it fresh and hydrated.

Vitamin C

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin C is needed by the body to help create and repair skin tissues. Vitamin C is also required to help with the production of an important protein called collagen, which is used to make skin. Low amounts of vitamin C may lead to dry and scaly skin.
