Beeswax or bee sweats are waxes that are naturally produced by honeybees for the construction of their combs. It is usually produced by young female worker bees, but older bees may also produce beeswax. Beeswax is also an ingredient in making such things as cosmetics, candle making, crayons, polishes and metal moldings.
Skin Firmness
Beeswax is used in making cosmetic products because of its unique characteristics. Women would put beeswax on their faces in order to soften their skin because it gives certain firmness. According to the AOCS Lipids Library, beeswax contains wax esters that are known for penetration quality and high flow ability to absorb. Wax esters are perfect as skin moisturizers because of the natural hydrating ingredient that puts essential moisture into the skin as it provides nourishment and protection.
Prevents Corrosion
Beeswax can be use in any variety of products for it is the most versatile and widely used material. Beeswax is helpful especially in shipping honeys and fruit juices. It serves as an application for protection of containers against the effects of acids. Honey and fruit juices are said to be acidic and can cause corrosion of iron containers causing the iron to mix into the honey and fruit juices. According to North Carolina State University Cleveland County Center, beeswax is used as an element in the treatment used in order to prevent corrosion and dissolution of iron in steel drums which are used in the storage of honey and fruit juices during shipment. Expensive food grade paint, a plastic liner made from food grade plastic film and a thin coat of beeswax are said to be the best protection of steel drums.
Heals Wounds Quickly
Beeswax is recommended by some medical practitioners as a treatment for burns and other skin conditions because of its effects on skin. It makes the healing process of infected wounds and swelling faster and it also reduces infections and diseases because it retains some anti bacterial properties. Beeswax also contains vitamin A which is necessary for normal cell development. According to Bastyr Center for Natural Health, beeswax contains anti-inflammatory properties that are effective on skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis, especially when mixed with honey and olive oil.
