Mentos candies are the brainchild of a pair of brothers who invented the candy in the 1930s. Today, Mentos -- sold in rolls in both mint and fruit flavors -- are in more than 100 nations, the company reports. The strawberry-flavored Mentos are available both in variety packs of the candy and in rolls containing only strawberry Mentos. Before eating Mentos to satisfy you craving for sweets, you should assess its effects on your diet.
Serving Size
The stadard serving size for Strawberry Mentos is one candy piece, according to the nutrition facts label. Keep that in mind when considering how they affect your daily diet. When you eat more than one candy from the package, you will need to multiply the nutritional values by the number of candies you eat.
Calories
Each strawberry candy contains 10 calories. None of the calories come from fat. The calorie count for a food represents how much energy it supplies your body, the Food and Drug Administration reports. The amount of calories you should eat in a day varies based on your age, size and activity level. If you eat 2,000 calories a day each Mentos candy you eat equals 0.5 percent of your total daily caloric intake.
Fat
Strawberry Mentos candies contain only a very small amount of fat -- 0.01 g per candy. The fat in the candy is in the form of saturated fat; the candies do not contain any trans fat or cholesterol. If you eat a 2,000-calorie diet, you should attempt to limit total fat intake to 65 g or less, the USDA recommends. Saturated fat should account for only one-third or your total fat intake.
Sodium
Mentos are a sweet treat, but each piece of candy also contains a small amount of sodium -- 1.08 mg. Your total daily sodium intake should not exceed 2,400 mg regardless of your total caloric intake, the USDA advises. The reason sodium intake should be restricted is because diets high in salt and sodium increase your risk for heart disease.
Carbohydrates
Strawberry Mentos contain sugar and sweetners. Each piece contains 2.51 g of total carbohydrates, which amounts to 1 percent of the recommended daily intake if you eat 2,000 calories. The majority of the carbs are in the form of sugar -- 1.91 per piece. Mentos do not contain any dietary fiber.
Protein
Strawberry Mentos do not supply you with any protein, however, you likely get an ample supply from the other foods you eat each day. The Food Guide Pyramid's Dietary Guidelines contain no intake recommendation for protein because of how common it is in the typical diet, the FDA reports.
