Racing games, whether they're played on the Wii, XBOX, Playstation 3 or online, can provide your family with hours of fun. While playing video games may not be the most active way to spend your time, they can be an occasional treat that you play together. Depending on your gaming system, you can choose from a variety of realistic and lifelike racing games, to silly and cartoon-like games.

"Need for Speed"

The "Need for Speed" empire began in 1999, when the original "Need for Speed" was released. Since then, a myriad of other specialized "Need for Speed" video games have been released, include "Need for Speed: Undercover," where you complete undercover police missions, "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit," where you're a gang member hiding from the police, and "Need for Speed: Shift," which offers realistic racing and shifting for better performance. It's a good all-around game for someone who wants more than just racing and can be played on most gaming systems.

"Gran Turismo"

If choosing a futuristic and expensive car is part of the fun for you, "Gran Turismo" for the Playstation 3 gives you realistic graphics and clean racing that's rated "E" for "Everyone," according to Gamespot.com. "MarioKart"

"MarioKart" for the Wii is ideal for younger children who don't want to miss out on the racing games fun in your home. Played with a motion-sensitive steering wheel, the twists and turns are caught on a wireless receiver and reflected in the classic Mario characters of the past, notes HonestGamers.com. Players are able to pick up surprise boxes that turn into weapons and prizes to help them win the race. Tracks go from easier areas such as Moo Moo Farms to tougher routes such as Bowser's Castle. The game features time trials, mini-games and challenges to keep your younger kids entertained.

"Speed Racer"

Based on the cartoon, online "Speed Racer" gives you the thrill of playing a throwback video game without the need for a gaming system.
