The makers of Kashi GoLean cereal believe in promoting an all-natural diet and beginning each day with healthy proteins and carbohydrates. With 13 g of protein and 6 g of dietary fiber, Kashi GoLean is designed to help consumers watch their waistlines and stay satisfied. For those with food allergies, Kashi GoLeans cereals do contain soy and wheat.
Soy Grits
Soy grits are simple, small bits of soy. Once cooked, they can be added to cereals and other recipes like soups, breads and even cookies. Kashi adds soy grits to GoLean Cereal as a source of bulk and soy protein.
Kashi Seven Whole Grains and Sesame
Kashi foods contain their proprietary blend of seven whole grains. Hard red wheat, brown rice, whole grain oats, triticale, barley, rye, buckwheat and sesame seeds comprise the Kashi whole grain blend.
Cane
Cane juice syrup and evaporated cane juice are used as sweeteners for Kashi GoLean Cereal. Cane juice and cane juice syrups originate from unrefined, natural sugar cane to add to the lightly sweetened taste of the cereal.
Corn Meal and Flour
Corn flour is milled directly from corn meal, according to the Food.com Kitchen Dictionary. It is a filler with a purpose. It is blended with other wheats to reduce the effects of gluten.
Soy Protein
Kashi GoLean Cereal also gets protein directly from soybeans. Kristen Montgomery, PhD, RN, writes in the Journal of Perinatal Education that soy protein is often used to replace animal protein in the diet. Montgomery also states that soy protein promotes cardiac health and may help control blood sugar in patients diagnosed with hyperglycemia.
Wheat and Corn Bran
Wheat bran is a source of dietary fiber in the diet. According to RxList, it is beneficial in the treatment and prevention of chronic constipation. However, people who add wheat bran to their diet often experience gas, or flatulence. Corn bran is also a source of dietary fiber.
Oat Fiber
Oat fiber, which contains beta-glucan, is the substance in cereals responsible for lowering levels of "bad" cholesterol, according to cereal chemist Doug Doehlert. Oat fiber is soluble, which means that when it passes through the large intestine, its fiber particles ferment, which slows the absorption of glucose into the blood.
Calcium Carbonate
Calcium carbonate is a supplemental form of calcium in the diet. According to Drugs.com, calcium carbonate is a mineral in the diet necessary for bone formation.
Salt
Salt is a flavor enhancer commonly found in processed foods. It is also a natural preservative.
Annatto Color
Annatto is a natural food coloring derived from the achiote shrub. In addition to providing a reddish color to foods, it is also used as a flavor enhancer.
