Metabolife 356 Side-Effects

Metabolife 356 is a popular supplement containing guarana and ephedrine, an herbal form of ephedra. It's used by millions of dieters, despite the fact that countless lawsuits have been leveled against its maker. Over the years, the Federal Drug Administration and doctors have warned against risks---from moderate to severe---associated with using it.

Blood Pressure

Metabolife 356 contains guarana, an herbal source of caffeine. It increases heart and pulse rates and may lead to high blood pressure.

Increased Cardiac Risk

According to Metabolife's own records, reported by the United States Congress in 2002, the company received over 2,000 reports of severe health problems and deaths linked to Metabolife use between 1997 and 2002. The same report details 20 heart attacks, 24 strokes and 40 seizures as well as 456 reports of chest pains and 966 reports of rhythmic heart disturbances.

Jitteriness

Ephedrine, a stimulant and appetite suppressant in Metabolife 356, can cause restlessness, confusion, euphoria and insomnia.

Psychiatric Symptoms

Reports regarding psychiatric symptoms---at least five of which involve psychosis---have been reported with Metabolife 356 use. Mood changes and anxiety also have been reported.
