Your dog is an important family member. When you leave him for a while, you want to know he is with the best caregivers possible. One option for quality dog care is a dog camping kennel. Dog camping kennels in Texas are in or near major cities. These kennels have caring staff trained to meet your dog's individual physical and emotional needs in surroundings that insure your dog's safety and comfort while separated from you.

Locations

Camp Bow-Wow & Home Buddies is a national chain that specializes in boarding dogs. Texas kennels are located in Austin, Kemah/League City, Coppell and San Antonio. Dallas has two Camp Bow-Wow locations.
Dogster.com lists dog boarding kennels in Spring. Two kennels are connected with dog grooming spas or obedience schools. One is a boarding kennel operated in conjunction with the Countryside Animal Hospital.
Action Dogs USA is 80 miles south of Waco. Katy has a dog boarding kennel that is adjacent to the Circle Lake Ranch Horse Camp.

Staff

All of the camping kennels have staff trained in pet care. Action Dogs USA follows the philosophy of Cesar Millan, the original dog whisperer, described on the Cesars Way website as the "Dr. Phil for dogs." Countryside Animal Hospital advertises veterinary care during your dog's stay. According to Camp Bow-Wow, its program has the "gold standard in dog boarding." Camp counselors go through a training program that includes Red Cross certification in pet first aid and CPR. All Circle Lake Ranch staff are certified by Pet Care Services Association.

Features

All camping kennels have day care as well as overnight care for your dog. Play areas are fenced and grassy; some have some sort of cooling off pool from the intense summer heat. Indoor facilities are climate controlled and kennels are large and spacious. Action Dogs has privacy panels between its kennels. Camp Bow Wow uses "spacious dog cabins" where dogs stay in compatible groups. Supervised exercise is part of the daily routine for dogs staying in any of the boarding kennels in Texas.

Special Features

Camp Bow Wow advertises a "24 hour monitoring system" and an interactive website where you can "visit" with your pet via web cam. You can make your dog's reservation online at the Camp Bow Wow website. Camp Bow Wow also has a screening process to determine the best grouping for your dog. Action Dogs USA screens your dog and has individual exercise programs for pets that don't socialize well. Action Dogs also has indoor, air-conditioned runs and TVs and soft, nighttime music to deter loneliness. Circle K Ranch does hand walking if necessary and welcomes visitors seven days a week. Dogs at Camp Bow Wow receive "campfire treats" and Action Dogs USA advertises "bedtime snacks."

Considerations

Your dogs must be vaccinated against rabies, distemper and bordatella to stay at any of the camping kennels. Only dogs that have been neutered or spayed and in general good health may stay at Camp Bow Wow. Circle Lake Ranch requires you to bring your dog's favorite food in a labeled container. Although separated, Countryside Animal Hospital, Circle Lake Ranch and some boarding kennels in Spring board cats in addition to dogs.
