Frown lines are a natural part of the aging process. Collagen proteins give your skin elasticity, keeping it firm and taut. As you age, your skin's natural collagen production slows down, leaving skin more prone to wrinkles and fine lines. However, there are methods available eliminating frown lines. With proper treatment, you can restore younger looking skin.

Step 1

Wear a hat whenever you'll be out in the sun for long periods of time. UV-rays cause collagen to break down more quickly, according to the MayoClinic.com. If you reduce your exposure to sunlight, your body's natural collagen production will be able to repair frown lines more efficiently.

Step 2

Eat foods rich in vitamin C. The Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics explains that vitamin C is vital for hydroxyproline production. Hydroxyproline is crucial for collagen stability; without enough hydroxyproline, collagen breaks down and you develop frown lines. You can obtain vitamin C from tomatoes, kiwi, oranges, broccoli and many other fruits and vegetables. Supplements are also available at virtually any pharmacy.

Step 3

Reduce your stress level. The U.S. News and World Report explains that stress can accelerate the development of wrinkles and fine lines. Plan for a leisure activity each week. You don't need to go on a cruise every week, but make time for a warm bath, a good book, a movie or a similar stress-free activity. If some relaxation time does not help you feel less stressed, consider talk therapy or discussing anti-anxiety medication with your doctor.

Step 4

Use a microdermabrasion kit, available at most pharmacies. Microdermabrasion kits use a rigid brush to exfoliate the skin, gently scraping off loose, damaged skin cells. This allows for new skin and renewed collagen production.

Step 5

Undergo dermabrasion therapy at your doctor's office. Similar to over-the-counter microdermabrasion, dermabrasion removes skin, prompting the growth of healthier, wrinkle-free skin. However, dermabrasion is more intensive, removing an entire layer of skin, according to The Ohio State University Medical Center. Dermabrasion is effective at removing frown lines, but it may leave your skin raw and discolored for up to one week.

Step 6

Obtain botulinum toxin injections at your doctor's office. Botulinum toxins paralyze or weaken the muscles at the injection site, reducing skin creases and fine lines. Frown lines can be treated with botulinum treatment, but remember that this treatment is temporary. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, you will need new injections every three to six months.

Things You'll Need

  • Vitamin C supplement
  • Microdermabrasion kit
